What is changing

The UK’s old analogue phone network (the PSTN) is being retired, and landline calls are moving to digital lines that run over broadband. Industry dates can change — check with your provider or Ofcom for the latest. Our overview is on What is the digital switchover?.

Simple checklist

  • List anything that uses your phone line today (alarms, telecare, card machines, door entry, fax).
  • Decide whether you want to keep your number (usually free with us; staff arrange it by hand over a few working days) or take a new UK number.
  • Check full fibre or digital phone options at your address on Check availability.
  • If you rely on your landline for 999, tell us before you switch.
  • Agree a switch date — we plan the move with you; it is not instant or automatic.

How we help

Our usual steps: check availability and what your line is used for; recommend full fibre and the right digital phone setup; arrange free number porting if you want to keep your number; switch on the agreed day and help you connect your phone or apps. More on Digital switchover.
